How Many Seconds Can You Look at These Clothes? (Fashion Forward 2015)

(by: Rosye Beadle)

This weekend I spent my time to attend Fashion Forward season 5, 2015 in Dubai. I was expecting to see the creativities of young designers then I found several of them were very interesting and made me stare longer. Several designs were simple but showed slightly different in details. Talking about trends, It seems fashionistas, especially ladies in UAE are facing a bigger choices than ever before. Either in color combinations, style and accesories. Between the show I also attended one of the fashion talk which shared some informations of window display in digital era. Generally the shows in FF season 5 were interesting, however the lightings in some shows were quite disturbing that faded away the colors during the fashion shows.

Get a closer look at some pictures that I took.

My Fashion Notes from Dubai World Cup 2015

(by : Rosye Beadle )

Beside the races and horses, fashion is one of very interesting thing in Dubai World Cup. On 28th March,2015 I had another chance to attend the Dubai World Cup and the Jaguar Style stakes. Dress to impress is all part of the event itself. There are several requirements of fashion in this event, such as should be elegant, respectful and stylish. Especially if attendees want to join the Jaguar Style Stakes.

There were hundreds of fashion-concious competed for the top honours at the Jaguar Style Stakes, the British luxury carmaker that has been hosting this event for the past five years. The fashion contestants were adjudged by an exceptional panel of judges from Jaguar representative, desainers and stylish from UAE, Dom Bagnato (senior designer from Australia) and Aaron Kwok (singer, actor & Longines ambassador of elegance). The categories were Best dress lady, Best Hat, Most creative hat, Best dress man, Best dress couple and Most elegant lady.

This year I had the opportunity to join two categories, Best hat and Best dress lady. It took me three weeks to decide and then modified my fascinator by myself. I didn’t expect much as there were so many unique and beautiful headpieces in the arena, some were designed by top millineries designers , but surprisingly panel of judges chose my hat as one of Best Hat finalist on Jaguar Style Stakes 2015.

Regarding the competitions,  I loved seeing loads of creativities in that arena.

3 Fashion Rules to Break Now

(By : Rosye Beadle)

There are some myth or rules in fashion that need to be followed. For example when people wear black shoes it should be match with black or dark bag. Why don’t we try to think out the box now. Let’s take a look.

Myth 1 : Bag should match the shoes

That’s what the myth says, but who would stop you to play with the color or pattern of your bag and shoes? Not necessarily waiting for a special occasion to get a different look. Take a look this nice mix and match idea from Chanel.

Myth 2 : No Stockings with Open-Toe Shoes

Nothing wrong to wear stockings or tights with open-toe shoes. Pair the dark tights with bright color shoes. For example silver shoes with black tights. Personally I like to wear black stockings against gold shoes or dark grey stockings against my red or blue or shoes. If you want to push the boundary more, try bright color tights against any color of shoes.

Myth 3 : You Have to be Tall to Wear Long Dress

Even if you are shorter, you can wear any outfit you desire including wear a long dress. Find a good tailor to get the best fit.

6 Ways to Personalize your Own Style

(by : Rosye Beadle)

There are many nice and trendy outfits in stores, but everyone likes to be different in some point. You don’t have to break the bank to do it 🙂

There are things I usually do to personalize my style, I summarize to this list :

  • Design your own outfit. Designing your own outfit, so you could costumize it. Even if you are not  a  designer, you can get the inspiration from magazines, TV, boutiques or department stores and blend the design  with your  own idea. Find the affordable fabric/material then bring it to tailor.
  • Find your signature color. Find the favorite color. It helps you to show your personal style. For example  Katy Perry likes to wear bright or colorful outfits. Karl Lagerfeld likes to wear black and  white. Pick the color that make your feel good.
  • Mix and Match. Pair your clothes in several different pieces  to get a unique idea of your style.
  • Have things Tailored. For example when you find the discount clothes, you can bring them to  tailor for alteration.
  • Accesories. Accesory is one of important thing to personalize your style. Either you can add   jewellery, scarf, beads, lace, buttons, ribbon, emblem or belt. Wear hat, headband or sunglasses. Maybe you want to add your own quote and stamp it onto tshirt, that is one way to personalize your style. Add detail on your shoes such as ribbon or lace.
  • Be Your Self. Not all things in store or in trend  always suit to you. Even if you want to change your style, find the cloth that looks good to you and show your own personality.

FOLLOW : www.notesofdesertrosestyle.com

(By : Rosye Beadle)

Batik is an art and craft which is inherited from ancient Java tradition in Indonesia. In Javanesse tik means dots. Batik is made by drawing lines, dots, or arch of the resist with a tool called a canting ( a pen-like tool use to apply liquid hot wax).

To create Batik, First the wax need to be applied over the pencilled-in outline of pattern, the part covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. Next step the cloth is dyed in the first dye bath, then the second wax is applied. The next process, the cloth is dyed in the second dye bath. The last process, the cloth would be boiled in order to remove the wax.

There are several Batik patterns that have been used since the beginning of Batik creation. Each pattern has the meaning and some of them show the status symbol of the wearer. For example Sida Mukti pattern, Sida means to become or to have done which express the hope to achieve spiritual happyness. Sekar Jagad means a beauty and grace that impresses people, or Truntum that was created by a queen in Java in seventeen century. Truntum means everlasting love that continues grow. There are at least twenty known base patterns with various meaning.

Several designers have developed Batik in a contemporary style. The contemporary Batik Indonesia patterns use animal, myth, flower or combined with a classic style. Young people like to wear contemporary Batik. Because of its unique pattern, Batik is now printed not just on traditional cotton or silk but also in leather or in hard material such as ceramic and wood.

Hat Hunting- A ‘Wow’ Hat Time

(by : Rosye Beadle)
One of accessory I like to put on my head is hat…currently I have about a dozen of hats.  I do have special interest to hats and visited hat section many times when I went to fashion stores. Although it was just a window shopping.
March 2014 is one of a very special month in Dubai. Why? Because, Dubai Wolrdcup will be held at the end of this month. It is a special annual event in Dubai. Horseracing began in the Emirate in October 1981, when the dusty Camel Track hosted the first thoroughbred racemeeting.   I will write in special section about Dubai Wolrdcup 2014 anyway.
Now let me be specific, It’s been a hat hunting time since about couple of months ago. When I was selecting my hat, I found various style of hats : cute, creative, classic, artistic and wow hats in many stores in Dubai lately. I also found extraordinary hats styles in exhibitions made by well known milinery designers. It is another atmosphere I enjoy here, indulging my eyes with the lovely views of wow hats.  rb-Mar2014
